One of the key differentiators of KP Holland is the extensive product and market knowledge available under the same roof. The Innovation Lab ensures continuous improvement; products are carefully researched, bred and propagated. We deploy the latest breeding techniques and breeding research with focus on Spathiphyllum, Kalanchoe and Curcuma.

 The lab contains almost 900m². In this area there are 5 different climate chambers. Each chamber can "run" according to its own cultivation recipe, with variation in light and temperature. Applicable techniques in the Innovation Lab include initiation, meristems, propagation, dihaploid research, embryo rescue and High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).

    Innovation in plant knowledge

    In the Innovation Lab, we work with innovative techniques to take the breeding process to the next level. These innovative aspects are possible because of the knowledge of our plants, which expands with every research. In the Innovation Lab, KP Holland intensifies the research, development as well as the propagation of our own assortment to meet the worldwide growing customer needs.

    Breeding as added value

    Through the application of molecular research (among other things), we are able to undertake even more targeted breeding, which enables us to provide the customer with improved varieties sooner. There is also room to help fellow breeders further develop and research their plants. The result? More certainty for the grower and a more beautiful plant for the end customer.

    Our focus areas in genetics

    In our breeding, the focus is on finding the best combinations from the father and mother plants. Combinations that are less susceptible to diseases and pests and provide better shelf life, stronger flowers and new appearances. Think in this of a fuller flower head for the Kalanchoe, a compact plant structure for the Curcuma, and a pollen-free plant for the Spathiphyllum. We translate market demand in the Innovation Lab to put growers in a better market position with our genetics.
