The General Manager is responsible for the overall operations of our Phoenix Foliage nursery as well as its satellite locations throughout Central Florida. In addition to overseeing that plant production is optimized, the GM is responsible for ensuring that the plants grown are healthy and meet the high-quality standards that the nursery is known for! The right person for the job will possess a passion for plants and team leadership skills. This position works under the direction of the ForemostCo Production Manager.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly financial and other management reports (including P&L Report), as well as assist ownership in preparing a yearly budget.
  • Oversee the management of the Phoenix Foliage budget including the purchasing of equipment and supplies such as media, trays, plants, seed, fertilizer and chemicals.
  • Monitor labor and ensure that all tasks are completed in the most efficient manner.
  • Administer the hiring, staffing, managing, and directing of production staff at the facilities.
  • Manage the analyzing of orders and market conditions to determine production plans and space allocations. Carry out the production plans by overseeing and scheduling of planting new product, quality control of said product, and management of labor.
  • Oversee all plant propagation and production at farm operations so that plants are grown in accordance with Phoenix Foliage standards, on a timely basis, with the least amount of expense.
  • Manage a diverse group of growers, planters, loaders, sprayers, irrigators, and shippers.
  • Be involved in making decisions of which variety selections, production methods, etc. are to be used at nurseries.
  • Maintain accurate inventory levels by ensuring production management and growing/propagation responsibilities are completed accurately and in a timely fashion.
  • Lead and enforce all safety guidelines and directives.
  • Maintaining and improving upon systems integration of growing protocols.
  • Reviewing the results of and ordering outside analysis of soil and plant tissues.
  • Conduct regular reviews of grow times, bench revenue, shrink buffers (production required), etc.
  • Create production reports and analysis to help identify problems and improvement opportunities.
  • Work with Senior Management to assure production plan matches market demand and goals.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for, and work with external suppliers, sales people and other company officials as needed.

Wat breng jij mee

  • Five + years experience in greenhouse/nursery management or related environment required.
  • Basic computer skills are necessary, as well as experience in Microsoft Office. Experience with greenhouse control software preferred.
  • Be detail oriented with a passion for working with plants, people, and numbers.
  • Reliable, responsible, and self-motivated, with ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Aptitude in decision-making and problem solving.
  • Strong time management skills, attention to detail, organizational skills, and follow through.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Ag Management, Horticulture, Business Management, or related field of study.
